The Family Place’s Response to COVID-19
For victims of family violence, sheltering at home due to COVID-19 can be extremely dangerous. We have seen a spike in hotline calls and don’t expect them to slow.
As a first responder and essential business, The Family Place is open, taking new clients, and providing shelter and counseling services to save lives. We are following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, and Dallas County Health & Human Services. We have taken the following precautions to help stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep our families and staff safe:
- We continue to take clients in our emergency shelters regardless of their symptoms. Once housed we take steps to get them testing if appropriate, medical care if needed, and isolation if necessary. We are holding beds open for isolation if a family presents with symptoms. When the shelter fills past capacity we will use our multipurpose room with air mattresses and hotel rooms to take families who are in immediate danger.
-
Our on-staff nurses are available to provide medical care via tele-health, and clients take their own temperatures two times a day.
- We will continue to provide counseling services over the phone or through video calls, and will provide crisis services face to face.
Ways you can help:
- Make a monetary donation. Your donation helps us provide lifesaving services to anyone who needs them.
- Shop our Amazon Wish List. You can donate essential supplies without even leaving your house, and the donations are sent directly to our shelters. Shop our Amazon Wish List here.
In critical times, we are encouraged by how our community comes together to support one another. Thank you for your support of The Family Place during this time.
